Flowers in their hair

OCO are sponsoring the Sult music festival on 8/9th of July in Gweedore at the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht. This will be the 3rd year of the festival and each year it has grown in stature and profile, not least as Covid has helped in retaining local talent in the area and attracting back professional talent who previously would have found it difficult to secure employment opportunities and career development in this rural area.

We are proud to be associated with this event and it reflects our commitment to the economic recovery of this unique, rural and distinctive region of Ireland. OCO established a presence in the GTEIC digital hub in Gweedore in 2020 with the support of Udárás na Gaeltachta, to take advantage of the available talent pool, competitive costs and excellent infrastructure to mitigate overheating in the urban centres across the island of Ireland.

In the last 2 years we have worked with Donegal Local Enterprise Office to develop the new enterprise strategy, followed on with export capacity building for a cohort of local firms, worked with place marketing expert eutopia to develop the Donegal place brand, Ireland’s DNA, and most recently produced an investment attraction strategy for the North West City Region comprising Donegal, Derry and Strabane.

Director of Regional & Community Development & Language with Údarás na Gaeltachta Rónán Mac Con Iomaire reflects; “Impactful companies such as OCO Global basing themselves in Gaoth Dobhair, looking to employ local people, adding to the innovative culture of gteic@Gaoth Dobhair, is key to the work Údarás na Gaeltachta is doing in developing sustainable Gaeltacht-based employment,” ,  “Taking that a step further through sponsoring social and cultural projects such as Sult is a fantastic commitment to the local community, and a great example of how companies can integrate themselves into the fabric of the Gaeltacht community.”

These initiatives are designed to stimulate employment growth and enterprise development in the region, creating prosperity and opportunity for those living in the community or diaspora attracted to return. We are delighted to be associated with a Festival that celebrates the music and traditions of the region, attracts national and international visitors, and showcases the unbelievable scenery and economic renaissance of the region.

The region is a good example of economic rebalancing in action. Whilst we know core city hubs are and will remain central to economic success and investment attraction, there is now a clear benefit and gain for businesses to review their expansion strategies and access new talent pools. It’s a win- win for overheated cities and the rural economy.
