Site-selection and location strategy for Agronutris

Client: Agronutris

Target Sectors: Insects

Markets: Europe, US, APAC

Delivery: Site-selection and location strategy

Project Overview

Agronutris, a French company specializing in insect-based protein, is accelerating its international expansion.

Following the successful launch of its first manufacturing plant in Rethel, France, the company is now seeking locations for new facilities in Europe, the U.S., and eventually Asia.

Europe and the U.S. are the top priorities, with the goal of strengthening Agronutris’ industrial footprint and ensuring proximity to key partners – both raw material suppliers and clusters of potential buyers.

This strategic approach aims to optimize logistics, secure sustainable inputs, and embed Agronutris in local ecosystems, supporting its mission to scale sustainably and contribute to a more circular agri-food economy.

OCO Approach

To support Agronutris’ expansion, OCO Global mapped, analyzed, and prioritized industrial clusters in Europe and the U.S., focusing on regions with strong alignment to the company’s needs in terms of raw material availability, production volumes, and proximity to partners.

We developed a long-list of 10 high-potential clusters in each region, ranked by key criteria including plot availability, operating costs, labor market conditions, and agricultural output.

In the next phase, we shortlisted four priority locations per region and organized on-site visits in Europe, enabling Agronutris to make informed, strategic decisions for its future sites.

Outcomes

Our team took a thorough approach to the project by offering a comprehensive recommendation with a carefully curated short-list of locations and their corresponding plots in both Europe and the Americas and delivered on-site support.

Our work provided the client with firsthand insights into each location’s suitability, validating the information gathered during the remote analysis, and identifying any potential challenges or opportunities that may not have been apparent from a distance.

Client Feedback

“What makes us different is our ability to provide a high-quality product with a very low carbon footprint. To reach such an ambitious target, we need to be supported by top industrial partners, and we need to be close to them. That is why we have developed, with OCO Global, a complex and actionable footprint evaluation approach, mixing availability and proximity of raw materials with more traditional location criteria such as costs, supply chain efficiency, risks and talents etc. .”
