OCO’s London office is seeking an experienced business development professional and project manager interested in international business and economic development. The successful candidate will work as part of the trade team.  They will be responsible for the management of large projects and performing the role of bid manager for key bids across the business as well as contributing to new business development.  This exciting role will require commercial acumen, project management as well as operational effectiveness.   It will involve winning and managing private sector, Economic Development and Donor Funded projects.  It will also involve reviewing OCOs current bid management process and bid repository, and creating and owning a new approach to make us best in class.  The objectives of the role will be to win and to enable the winning of new projects and to manage successful and profitable delivery of projects.

The key responsibilities:

Under the management of the Trade Director the role will involve;

  • Bid Management – Establishing a best in class process, system and internal communication plan for bid management and proposal writing
  • Manage the bid qualification (bid go / no go) process for new opportunities
  • Manage virtual bid teams and inputs from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from lines of business, markets, finance, technical, marketing, legal and delivery
  • Managing the bid process for large bids in order to meet all timelines and requirements
  • Preparing and reviewing the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer
  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process
  • Contributing to the written proposal – both in terms of content and presentation
  • Ensure timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound bids
  • Prepare High-Quality Templates and keep updated for managers to pick and choose easily from experience database
  • Project management and successful service delivery against targets, budget and timeframe, in relation to a number of client contracts
  • Account management of key client relationships
  • Export Advisory – Meetings with senior level executives of SMEs to discuss their export strategies and propose solutions to expedite their growth
  • Developing and maintaining a network of intermediaries and multipliers
  • Business Development – Assisting with business development opportunities and contributing to proposals as required

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications:

  • Third level degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Economics, Geography (other disciplines will be considered where candidates can demonstrate core skills required).

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in international business development and / or economic development
  • Demonstrable bid management and / or project management experience
  • Proven experience meeting and exceeding targets
  • Proven experience and success in developing solutions for companies or EDOs
  • Proven ability to up-sell and increase project value and cross-sell into other lines of business
  • The ability to communicate confidently with senior-level executives both in person and over the phone
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to deliver impactful client-facing documents
  • Very strong communication, operational and analytical skills
  • A proactive approach to owning projects and work streams and strong ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
  • Flexible attitude and willingness to undertake travel
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working with African countries
  • Fluent in French
  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Understanding of exporting and international development
